Freshwater: A new addition to our core services.
Around 70% of the Earth is made up of water. Less than 3% of that water is classified as from a freshwater source. Our professional freshwater team can support projects looking to gain a better understanding of the ecology or health of a pond or lake.

Water Quality Analysis
Our staff are trained to conduct water quality analysis by prominent industry experts, Aquatic Consultancy. Our network of freshwater colleagues provides us with corporate confidence to perform water quality surveys and deliver high quality results about the health and ecology of these ecosystems.
Panthalassa Ltd. provides an assessment of the overall health of lakes and ponds. Firstly, on site we measure temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, conductivity and total dissolved solids using electronic probes. Secondly, staff collect water samples and plankton samples which we transport to our laboratory for analysis. Then measure ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, phosphate, alkalinity and calcium levels using photometry. Finally, the plankton community is assessed using microscopes and the results are compiled in a Laboratory Report or Environmental Improvement Report.
Panthalassa Ltd.’s water quality surveys are adapted for each project based on its needs. We recommend the number and location of samples. We also provide management strategies for improving the ecology and health of lakes and ponds
Blue-Green Algae Counts
Blue-Green Algae are a toxic component of lakes and ponds. In high numbers they can be lethal or cause severe illness to humans and wildlife. We assess the toxicity of lakes and ponds by counting blue-green algae within plankton. The results of this assessment can help implement necessary actions to improve the health of a waterbody and ensure compliance with legislative requirements. Our staff attend sites, collect samples and conduct laboratory analysis. We use microscopes to identify the different algae species present and count toxic species.

Sediment Sampling
We conduct sediment sampling for lakes and ponds using a corer which can sample in water depths up to 3m. We can take cores of either 30 or 60cm into the sediment from shores, boats or infrastructure. Sediment sampling analysis provides greater insight into the health and ecology of lakes and ponds.
